Mark, thanks for the question. One of our graduate outcomes that we have developed and implemented for our students is "An understanding of the obligations of effective citizenship in a democratic society". We teach and reinforce this graduate outcome in many ways and in many of our classes. Individual responsibility in society is discussed in College 101, Life/College success; in our Sociology courses, in particular Contemporary Social Problems; in our Nursing program; in our Goverment courses; and in our Psychology classes. So we attempt to address this issue in many arenas of study.   « less

Good morning Jan, I will try to answer your questions. Your credits and degree from Tennessee will be honored by NMSU. If you did not get teaching certification when you completed your BA in English than you can do that with NMSU. The person to contact is Adelina Rodriquez at 234.9256. Adelina is the distance ed coordinator at our campus and she is fully versed in all the NMSU offerings here in Carlsbad and available online. She can help you determine wether you need any courses to be certified as a teacher in NM, since your degree is from out of state. The second part of you question deals with the policies of the Carlsbad School District and yes to my knowledge a teacher must complete a masters degree within 5 years afer they are hired. NMSU provides the course work that leads to the masters degree right here in Carlsbad. Again Adelina is your contact for that program. Good Luck and thanks for asking, Mike   « less

Donna, Good to hear from you. By MIS I am assuming you mean Management Information Services, a powerful combo with that Associate's degree would be a Bachelor's in Business. That way you would have a broader background in all areas of business than just the computer side. If you decide that Business is not what you want than the MIS is a great support for other endeavors. Good Luck and keep in touch, Mike   « less

Thank you for the question. Sorry about the response delay but we had a software problem until today. There is no age limit for federal financial aid, you just must have graduated from a high school or have a GED. If you have already received a bachelor degree the Pell Grant is no longer available but student loans are. We also have quite a few local scholarships to assist adults returning to school, so I urge you to contact Judi Sears in our financial aid office at, 234-9225. An application for federal aid can be done online and is easier than ever before so I would urge you to apply for federal aid as well. The web site is www.fafsa.org, you are welcome to come in and use our computers here and we can assist you in the application process. If you would like us to help you, our financial aid office is located in student services at our campus on the north side of town. We are open Mon-Thur till 6 pm and Fri till 5 pm. Thank you for your inquiry, Mike.   « less
