Is sex the only way one can get HPV? Research form the Department of GU Medicine, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, England found HPV DNA under the finger tips of men and women with the HPV virus. The research suggested the possibility of transmission by finger-genital contact. There is evidence for vertical transmission from at least 30% HPV positive mothers to their infants, resulting in persistent infection in children. Vertical transmission of the HPV virus can exist from mothers to their infants. It is well recognized that high-risk HPV is spread by sexual activity, but the possibility of non-sexual transmission still remains controversial.    « less

Early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease: ability to live alone and drive a vehicle. A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease usually means that your loved one is going to have to cease driving and require assistance with daily tasks. When exactly this should occur depends on the individual. Assessment of the individuals driving abilities and their in home safety level is the first step. To what extent an individual can continue to drive can be ascertained with a clinical and driving evaluation. There is evidence that some individuals in the early stages of the disease are able to drive safely even though they get lost, there is also countering evidence showing those in early stages of the disease are involved in crashes. A safe environment can help prevent injuries, and it can help the person with dementia feel relaxed and less overwhelmed. To enhance safety in the home, assess the environment for hazards. Try to see the world through the eyes of a person who has Alzheimer’s and adapt the environment to her or her needs. The Alzheimer’s Association will be especially valuable resource for assistance. Carlsbad has many wonderful medical facilities and companies. There are several different options for you and your son in Carlsbad. My first recommendation would be Home Health Services, which we at the Home Care Connection and Hospice offer. We can provide skilled nursing, certified nursing assistants and Physical, Occupational, and Lymphedema Therapy. The support depends on his medical conditions and the funding, (Medicare, Medicaid, or Insurance) he has. As well as the New Mexico Coalition for the Blind provides education and home setup for legally blind individuals. Also, if he is under Medicaid there is funding for private caregivers, skilled nursing and therapy services through a program called Private Care Option which we also provide.
